Ottery St Mary Reserves Half term Report Card
ATTAINMENT C EFFORT A ABILITY A+
The reserves met the halfway stage of the season winning their fourth league game in a row and climbing up to 10th place in the league from being bottom only a month ago, all this off the back of a training session where 20 players where present and 5 with valid reasons for not attending in a part of the season where team numbers are usually dropping off. The season started shakely with 6 points from the first 9 league games, 1 goalkeeper gone walkabout, Muzza told to retire by the Doctor and a fatal admin error costing us 4 precious points! The only plus points were beating the then league leaders Lords XI away on penalties in the cup and a 2-0 win against Sampford Peverall at home with first team keeper Aidy lending a hand to cover our keeper crisis. On the social side the new faces of the reserves have bonded well and sometimes you forget that these players have only been playing together for 20 odd games such is the camaraderie between some of the players But now at this halfway stage things are definitely on the up for the Otters with top scorer Potter progressing to the first team but the gap filled by Scott Halliday (10 in 7 games) and Dan Gill, Andy Davey and Jake Bristowe all putting their names on the scorers chart. The back four only conceding 2 goals in the last four games since Dale Strawbridge filled the void between the sticks. The defence need to be congratulated as with a small number off defenders the regular back four have played well recently and even dropping in there myself it no surprise in the improvement with James Hudson and Dale's voices have made a massive difference. The midfield have been Solid with Ash and Harry not putting a foot wrong in recent weeks and even Harry managed to get a goal, on the width where most of the goals we have scored recently have been delivered from Jo, Mam and Tom R have been excellent and Mam 5 goals have been vital. The players trying to get into the team patience has been excellent and their commitment to coming training and improving their game has been great, also the under 16's coming training are keeping everyone on their toes and when January comes around Dan Jewell will make all the back four worried. League leaders Oakwood on Saturday last time the two teams met it was 5-3 to Oakwood after a dodgy pen and the Otters were in the game up Until 10 minutes from the end, so the otters will be looking for a good performance. Happy Christmas.
