Ottery Firegirls U13’s 0 West Exe U13’s 2
By Coach Dale Strawbridge
Ottery u13’s started today’s game looking for their second win of the season and
a good run in the cup, with performance’s improving week by week, Ottery passed
the ball around sharply and looked possessive all game with all 3 midfielders
working extremely hard when going forward, but were not able to put the ball
into the back of the net. West Exe were thankful of their keeper for today’s
victory after pulling of some impressive goal scoring saves. Ottery needed more
shots on goal so Jessica Jenkins came off the bench and made an impressive
performance, breaking through the West Exe defensive line many times and was
very unlucky not to score. West Exe scored two goals in the first half that were
not deserved, Zoe Packer in the Ottery goal had a blinding game in goal saving
some difficult shots. The Ottery defence looked very strong in the 1st half as
the 2nd too. Ottery almost scored late in the 1st half with Jess being clean
through on goal, but the referee pulled play back for a free-kick to Ottery when
there could have been a decent advantage. Nether the less Jess was confident at
taking the free-kick which just missed the under side of the crossbar.
At the begging of the second half Ottery were down heartened at not being in
front after having 12 shots, 8 of which being on target. Ottery continued to
pile on the pressure at the oppositions goal but again West Exe’s keeper wasn’t
letting anything past her, as was the same as the Ottery keeper. This really was
a match were both keepers were kept busy and played vital performance’s. The
match started to get a little bit scrappy with the referee making some
questionable decisions, which caused West Exe to take advantage on decisions
that were not being given. The West Exe Striker caused a lot of bedlam with her
pushing and hitting the two Ottery defenders. Situations worsened when Captain,
Lara had to come off the pitch injured with huge stud marks on her leg due to a
questionable challenge from the West Exe striker. So Jolene Spencer had to step
in to defence with Ella who had also come on to provide some fresh legs and to
cool temperaments down. Full-time couldn’t of come soon enough, as far as the
result is concerned Ottery didn’t deserve to lose that game but to win by at
least 2 or 3 goals. Hopefully the return leg in the next couple of weeks can
turn into Ottery’s favour and push our performance after today’s performance was
exceptional.
Girl of the match for Ottery could have gone to anybody, as all the players
worked hard for one and other today’s girl of the match was given to the whole
team.
Line-up: Zoe, Sammy, Ella, Lara, Sarah, Jolene, Laura. Subs: Deryn, Abby, Jess

Firegirls under 13s 1 Westexe 5
The under 13s Firegirls were home to Westexe on Sunday. The first half started well with the Firegirls having lot of chances but not scoring. It was Westexe who had the first goal against the run of play as the girls were in control, but soon followed by the Firegirls through Zoe Packer, there was a lot of good play from the Firegirls through the first half and the first half finished 1 – 1. in the second half again the girls played well but a few lapses in concentration saw the final score being 5 - 1 Even though the Firegirls lost this game the team spirit looks good. Firegirl of the match was Ebony Lacey. We are looking for new girls to join the squad any girl interested needs to be 12 at the 31st August 2008 and live in East Devon. Firegirls under 13s 2 Tiverton 3
The under 13s Firegirls were home to Tiverton town in this first game of the new season. The girls lined up with a very strong team against Tiverton who had moved from the north devon league to join the Devon Girls League. The game started well with the Firegirls storming through the Tiverton girls but to no avail working hard to get to their box but being cut out in the last quarter, and half way through the first half on a rare break Tiverton got through to make it 1 – 0. this was immediately countered by the Firegirls with a strong break down the left taking in swift movement from the defence through midfield to let Ebony Lacey through to make it 1 – 1, the pressure all going one way from the Firegirls, but yet again the concentration slipped and Tiverton made a rare break and scored.
Again the Firegirls built and moved forward to make chance after chance but to be stopped by a competent keeper. But jet again the Tivvy broke through to make it 2 – 1. Half time came and the Firegirls were really up and ready for the second half, with more pressure from the Firegirls it was only a matter of time before we were back on even terms, with this goal coming from a 35 yard shot from Jessica Jenkins that finished with a top corner, 2 – 2 . the Firegirls kept on pushing with all the play being in the Tivvy end but yet again the the Tivvy captain broke away and made a single break to score, final score 2 – 3 to Tiverton. Even though the Firegirls lost this game the team spirit looks good for the season. We are looking for new girls to join the squad any girl interested needs to be 12 at the 31st August 2008 and live in East Devon. Please contact Greg Layzell on 07912512983
