Ottery Firegirls Under 11s 2 Weymouth 0
Ottery put on an excellent display Versus a very good Weymouth side. This game
was an arranged friendly and it is great to see girls teams linking up across
the country. It advertises the advance in girls football perfectly.
The Ottery girls showed that they can pass the ball around well, after a long
summer of training. The girls have really shown a major improvement in their
ball control and passing ability, they put such skills into practice against
this Weymouth side.
The game kicked off at 12:30 and it didn’t take long for Kayleigh Bull to get on
the score sheet. She outpaced her marker, skilfully took it round the keeper and
slipped it into the net. This Goal being her 4th goal from 5 games this season.
Ottery then retained possession for long period at one point putting together a
move that consisted of 8 passes. However it wasn’t all Ottery Weymouth played
there own good passages of football and created many chances, but the Firegirls
defence was just too strong. The second goal came about 5 minutes before the end
of the half, when Hayley Moxem rolled the ball out to kayleigh Bull, who then
took the ball up the wing, slipped it into the path of the LM who then put Thea
Pohl in on goal. In true Firegirls fashion she neatly tucked the ball into the
bottom corner of the net.
HT- 2-0
Weymouth stepped up in the second half and hit the firegirls defence hard.
However the back line stood up well and no goals were conceded, Ottery then
continued to pass the ball well and retain possession limiting Weymouth chances
down to 2-3 in the whole half. Ottery created a few more chances but couldn’t
extend their lead. Overall a brilliant performance by the girls.
