WELCOME TO OTTERY ST MARY YOUTH FC

Dear Parent(s)

On behalf of Ottery St Mary Youth Football Club, We would like to welcome your child to the club and provide you with some information about our activities.

The club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of six to seventeen to receive coaching and take part in leagues and cup competitions in the East Devon, Exeter and Devon League. All coaches have been screened by the Criminal Records Bureau for suitability for working with young people and have either qualified or will seek to achieve this during the season.

The club prides itself on self-discipline and encourages not only competitive football but also ensures that football is enjoyed by all.

We welcome parents and guests to all competitions and value any support.

Arrangements should be made for you child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. If would be very much appreciated if children can arrive, and are collected promptly. If you are going to be late picking your child up please let the coaches know at the beginning of the session / match.

The club has a small registration fee of £15 for mini soccer and £18 for eleven a side, the increase is mainly due to the additional cost of the training facilities, increase costs for membership to the main club, ground rent, affiliation, referees and personal ID cards. Three pounds of this fee will pay for your child’s membership to the main club.

Should parents wish to become a member of Ottery St Mary Footballs Club there is an additional fee of £5. Please ask any of the coaches form an application form or ask behind the bar at the club.

The club reserves the right to cancel membership of any player for conduct, which may bring the club or game into disrepute. In such cases no fees will be refunded.

A ground rent fee of £1 or match fee of £2 MUST be paid to the coach at the BEGINNING of each session / match.

All members of the club are covered by insurance. Essentially this covers player-to-player accidents and public liability. The insurance does not cover damage of theft of player’s equipment, clothing etc. All players and helpers are reminded that they participate at their own risk. The club, trainers or helpers can accept no liability for any loss or damage to property or for any personal injury, which may occur.

It is compulsory for all players parents or guardians associated with Ottery St Mary Youth Football Club to complete and sign the Code of Conducts and pay the appropriate membership fee. Failure to do so will mean that your child will not be able to be a member of the club, take part in training or play in any competition. If you have already signed a form please ensure your manager is made aware of any changes to your or you child’s personal details or health.

If you wish to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child’s involvement with the club, please contact either Mike Dawe on 01404 814714 or Karen Rugg on 01404 814308.

We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to a very enjoyable season.
The Committee

PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

Children's sports are supposed to be fun – for the children. Unfortunately, many parents, fans and coaches don't realize that their actions, whether verbal or nonverbal, can have a lasting emotional effect on children. Too many children are leaving sports activities because adults unfairly take the fun away. Parents who follow this simple code can help reinforce what sports are all about… BEING FUN FOR EVERYONE.

As a parent or spectator:

1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.

2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.

3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4. I and my guests will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

5. I and my guests will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

6. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.

7. I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

8. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, colour, sex or ability.

9. I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

10. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.

11. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.

12. I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

13. I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
